Uncontrolled Guns

A Wisconsin State lawmaker, worried about a recent string of deadly school shootings, suggested arming teachers, principals and other school personnel as a safety measure and a deterrent.

Republican Representative Frank Lasee said Wednesday that it might not be politically correct, but arming school personnel has worked effectively in other countries.

The examples that Lasee holds up: Thailand and Israel. Not exactly the authors of sound public policy.

Comments:
That's awesome logic.

As we all know, the best way to reduce gun violence, is to have more people with more guns.

Brilliant!

Praire boy, I don't agree with your contention that bad guys will always have guns. Certainly not all bad guys will always have guns. How come gun crime rates are so much lower in countries with strict gun control then?

I will agree that organized crime will always find guns, but it isn't organized crime that is responsible for school shootings. School shootings are usually from societal outcasts and misfits, in their teens or otherwise, who have severe psychological problems. I doubt these guys are particularly well in touch with organized criminal networks.

Oh an interesting question for both sides of the political spectrum. How come people on the right, generally support the war on drugs, believing that we can keep drugs of the streets, but don't believe in gun control, believing that bad guys will always have guns? And alternatively, how come people on the left generally support gun control, believing that we can keep guns away from bad people, but don't generally support the war on drugs, believing there will always be a supply of drugs so we should address the demand?

Neither of these gross generalizations of pairs of arguments logically hold.

That last point I agree on.
