Pic-A-Pipe

The federal government and the Northwest Territories have a very preliminary arrangement intended to restart negotiations on the stalled Mackenzie Valley gas pipeline project. This isn't a surprise, however, the no monetary value attached is. Could it be that May 10, 2005 sees no federal spending announcement?

Deputy Prime Minister Anne McLellan said that both parties will work together to create an interim arrangement – a fund of some sort" will allow the territories to deal with some of the socio-economic issues around the proposed pipeline. Spoke to soon. Apparently, the federal government has now resorted to funding agreements with goodwill, bottles, and/or buttons.

The federal treasury is starting to resemble a 7-11 - open 24 hours and the locks on the door are for show.
