Leadership

Paul Martin and Stephen Harper addressed their loyal soliders shortly after the slim budget vote in the House. There were a couple of interesting observations.

One, Harper delivered a good speech. He hit all the points he needed to and even managed to target Quebec. The one minor point that I would take issue with is Quebec being the province where people will be the most disappointed by the outcome of the vote. No way, that distinction goes to Alberta. Albertans have been reviving their engines for a vote for weeks and months. Grade A-

Paul Martin was, while, Martinlike. His speech started stale, had an ackward middle, but ending strong. Martin did, however, mention the priorities in the budget - childcare, education, the environment, Aboriginals, cities and that saved him from getting the failing grade. Grade B-

The really appalling thing about the speeches were the visuals. Harper choose to use the Conservative logo on his podium with flags nearby. A classy move. Martin, however, choose the Liberal, hmm, Canadian flag. Paul treating Canada as yours is what got us into this mess. When will Liberals learn?
