The NRA has cat scratch fever.

Live it to no talent, loud mouthed, aging rocker (term used loosely) Ted Nugent to cement the case for gun control. Spare the Canadian spending boondoggle that is the file, the intent is correct.

With an assault weapon in each hand, Nugent, an avoid gun rights advocate, urged National Rifle Association members to be "hardcore, radical extremists demanding the right to self-defence."

There is no problem with citizens owning guns for hunting and protection, but assault weapons. It is one thing to think the King of England is coming to take your land and possessions, but he is not bringing a militia. Nobody needs to own an AK or Uzi. A simple shotgun or handgun will do.

Nugent is emblematic of the NRA's extreme views. Their leadership, when pressed, refused not to allow membership to people on the United States most wanted list. Leaders simply just dismissed it as a list. They are correct in that, but it is a list of the most dangerous and wanted individuals in the country. Idiots!

Nugent concluded his remarks with these pearls of wisdom. "Remember the Alamo (the event not the horrible Billy Bob movie)! Shoot 'em!" "To show you how radical I am, I want carjackers dead. I want rapists dead. I want burglars dead. I want child molesters dead. I want the bad guys dead. No court case. No parole. No early release. I want 'em dead.

There is no truth to the rumour that Nugent was considered for US Attorney General or is about to be tapped to the Supreme Court.

Comments:
I use to think like you. Then I got raped.

The right to own guns is not so rednecks can hunt. It's so 125 pound women like me can level the playing field.

The stupid media focus on nuts hide the truth.

The next bastard that so much as tries to enter my house without permission will find out what an assault rifle is for.

Sarah, I can't even begin to imagine what you have been through, but I still cannot agrre with the need for assault rifles.

Unless you keep the AK-47 you own in the world's largest purse, you don't have it with you at all times. It is therefore possible that some jerk can still ambush you and hurt you...or anyone of us for that matter.

The gun in your house is then left to be forgotten and picked up by a kid or a drunk friend and then, bang, tragedy. Or, worse, you shoot some random guy whose car has stalled and he knocks on your door to use the phone. It may sound ridiculous, but it has happened in the past.

Unless you're in Fallujah, assault rifles are not needed.

During the first year of the war in Iraq 750 American soldiers were killed, many in Fallujah.

In the city I live in, during the same year there were 441 murders, 1112 rapes including mine.

And that is ONE city.

I am getting my affairs in order. And when ready, I am taking my guns and moving to suburban Virginia where I can legally carry a concealed handgun, where they no longer have parole, and criminals fear to tread. I still consider myself extremely liberal. I'm pro-choice, pro-environment, I am for gay marriage, I'm a Unitarian Universalist for Gods sake.

But the next trespassing, filthy, drunken, black-toothed scumbag that so much as touches me...

BTW, they caught the fucker that raped me. The next day. He was in the middle of a crime spree. He was shot by a 57 year old Korean woman who owned a corner store.

Unfortunately he lived.

"It is one thing to think the King of England is coming to take your land and possessions, but he is not bringing a militia."

Clarification: If the King of England decided to invade America, he would bring an army, not a militia. The Americans would be the ones obliged to produce a militia.

Ted Nugent is a whacko, yes, but he is not the poster-child for the NRA. There are many law-abiding citizens who wish to own firearms. Assault rifles are a bit extreme, but then again, I don't live in a crime-riddled city so I don't think I'm one to judge.

I think a gun is a gun.

Please dont get caught up with simple differences. I have a hunting rifle that is way more deadly than an AK-47.

Also the second amendment is not to protect hunters, or restrict certian gun manufacturers. It is designed specifically to limit the power of the government to enslave the population.

Please remember that Hitler was serious about gun control.

Criminals love neighborhoods that have gun control.

And yes Ted is whacked. But even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

Marty said: "Criminals love neighborhoods that have gun control."

I won't address the insane Hitler comment, but the one about criminals and gun control leaves me a bit perplexed.

It actually doesn't make much sense, as the areas in the world with more gun control actually have LESS crime, not more.

A proliferation of guns is no different than an arms race between countries. The more weapons there are, the more people feel they have to use them. It puts people in a paranoid state and trigger fingers get twitchy, real fast.

Oh, yeah, and no trying to pull a Moses and say that guns are not the reason why the US (where they are most accessible) is more violent. It's not just the people who kill, it's the culture of violence bred by the proliferation of firearms that makes them kill.

I live outside Washington DC. In DC they have total gun control. Every year they have 400 to 600 murders, one of the top ten crime rates in the country even though they have more cops per person than anywhere in the world.

My father in law is a public defender there. His clients constantly say they operate in Washington because its safer to do breakins in DC than in Virginia.

There are many factors for crime.

Gun control does not reduce crime.

I can confirm what Marty is saying. I work in the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta. We maintain a ton of various stats. Gun control does not reduce crime. Guns do not cause crime either.

Overpopulation, population IQ, and poverty level are the leading indicators.
