Get rid of the head of state

It is high time that Canada moved awy from the monarchy. And now, according to a recent poll, Canadians appear warm to the idea of finding full independence. There is one small asterisk - after Queen Elizabeth II departs the throne.

Canada should take steps to becoming a true republic with its own head of state. This would, among other things, remove the Queen from our money and eliminate the role of the Governor General.

On the money issue, there are no shortage of great Canadians who could grace our currency. We could choose Glen Gould, Louis Riel, Alexander Graham Bell, Terry Fox or some piece from the Group of Seven.

As far as the GG goes, I think Adrianne and John will be ok.

To the Queen. May she find her way home across the Atlantic.
