When did Toronto turn into the Wild West?

There has been an alarming escalation of violence in Toronto in the past three weeks, with 17 incidents of gunplay and 6 fatal shootings. Police speculate that the increased activity is traced back to gang turf wars. The violence, for the most part, has been isolated in the northwest Jane-Finch neighbourhood and has yet to spread through the whole city.

Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty has weighed in on the subject. He addressed the gun violence last week, putting part of the blame on handguns slipping across the border from the United States. Also, he said he planned to raise the issue with the U.S. ambassador, who has been invited to next week's premiers' meeting in Banff.

So much for gun control when your neighbour has no such concern. Apparently our pot flooding the border are not tolerable, but US guns making the trip. Okalee Dokalee!

On a completely unrelated note - Grammy Award Winner Marc Cohn was shot in the head during an attempted carjacking. The incident occured in Denver - not Memphis.

Comments:
Wouldn't it been great if the federal liberals would have spent $2 Billion dollars on stopping gun smuggling rather than forcing farmers to register their long guns. Now that would have been true gun control. But the gun registry money is gone now, where it went, it seems, no one is quite sure and Toronto is being run over by gun violence.
