Cinco de Mayo
This day is significant in both the US and Mexico because it was on this day in 1862 that 4,000 Mexican soldiers smashed the French and traitor Mexican army of 8,000 at Puebla, Mexico, 100 miles east of Mexico City.
This victory was important because it allowed the United States to fend off their own confederate rebels (and not worry about the French) and eventually win the Civil War.
